I figured one good way to show a constant progress on the game development is do provide consistent updates about how the game is progressing. This will also give me a chance to provide valuable information about some of the key features to my game, so the excitement will build for joining and playing the game when it becomes available.
Today and Yesterday I worked mainly on the information portion of the information website. No I am not listing what it is yet... still a few more days away from that. Other than that, nothing real exciting on the project today. Just. A. Lot. Of. Typing.
However, my brain has been overflowing with ideas for the game. Most of which I would be surprised to actually make it INTO the game, but would make the game that much more of a rich environment.
Been researching a bit on 2D tile mapping, and having trouble finding anything specific to working in a web environment. The system that I kinda put together a year ago works... but would not be very efficient to build upon. As it is I am looking at doing a 2D tile map, with about 6-7 layers for each tile. So, multi-dimensional arrays are going to be a must. Basically I want to do something like the following:
They would load stacked on top of one another. Of course the array would be much larger... maybe 100x100, or could really be any size based off what map you are on, but there would only be a viewable area of like 20x15 tiles. I might make that adjustable per session for each user so users with larger screens can see more at once, but I would just focus on the 20x15 viewport first and get that working for the map scrolling.
